Ja Rule
"Stan Leone"
Ja Rule's 1999 solo debut album, Venni, Vetti, Vecci, launched the hit single "Holla Holla" and made the 23-year-old a hot new icon of "thug rap" style. Born Jeffrey Atkins, he grew up in the tough, drug-riddled Hollis neighborhood of Queens, dropped out of high school and began building a music career under the nom de rhyme Ja Rule. His second album, Rule 3:36 (2000), included the hit duets "Between Me and You" (with Christina Milian) and "I Cry" (with Lil' Mo); Pain Is Love (2001) included the hit "Always on Time," a duet with his protege Ashanti. As Ja Rule racked up hit after hit, he became the poster artist for Murder, Inc. Onscreen he has appeared with Vin Diesel in the summer hotrod flick "THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS" (2001) and with action star Steven Seagal in "HALF PAST DEAD" (2002). Other film credits include "SCARY MOVIE 3" (2003), "THE COOK OUT" (2004), "ASSAULT ON PRECINCT13" (2005) and a starring role in "BACK IN THE DAY" (2005). But not just television, he also wanted to be in movies and magazines. Paul Calderon
"Detective Tanner"
This hard-working character actor has appeared in numerous films and TV
shows since the mid-1980s. He appeared with Robert DeNiro off- and on
Broadway in "CUBA AND HIS TEDDY BEAR" in 1986, and earned critical attention
for two productions at NYC's The Public Theatre: the one-act boxing drama
"BLADE TO THE HEAT" (1994), as the fallen champion, and a controversial
production of "TROILUS AND CRESSIDA"(1995), as a hard-rock Achilles. A
member of the Actor's Studio, Calderon also co-founded the INTAR LAB
company.
A great role in the noir thriller "SEA OF LOVE" (1989) brought Calderon to
the attention of casting directors and he has rarely been idle since. He
brought his tough New York, slightly ethnic persona to supporting roles in
Abel Ferrara's "KING OF NEW YORK" and as a stoolie in Sidney Lumet's dark
"Q&A" (both 1990), as a cop in Ferrara's "BAD LIEUTENANT" (1992), "THE FIRM"
and "LOTTOLAND" (both 1993), and Quentin Tarantino's "PULP FICTION" (1994).
1995 was a very busy year for Calderon: he appeared in Spike Lee's
"CLOCKERS", was the demented Lili Taylor's professor in Abel Ferrara's "THE
ADDICTION" and had a turn in the Tarantino-directed segment of the
unfortunate comedy "FOUR ROOMS". That same year, he also played two addict
roles, a crack-head in "SWEET NOTHING", alongside Michael Imperioli and Mira
Sorvino, and a coke-head in "CONDITION RED". More recent films were
"GIRLFIGHT" and "21 GRAMS".
